The naming of organic compounds with a functional group

The naming of organic compounds with a functional group

  1. If an organic compound contains a functional group, the longest carbon chain is that carbon chain, which contains the functional group. In such a case, the longest chain rule is dominated, and priority is given to the functional group.
  2.   The numbering of the parent chain containing a functional group is done in such a way that the functional group gets the lowest number.
  3. When there are more functional groups, one of the functional groups is considered as a principal functional group (used as a suffix), and the remaining functional group as a substituent. (used as a prefix)
  4. When there is more than one functional group of the same kind, di, tri, tetra, etc. are used before the suffix.
