Types Of Polymerization Reaction

Types of polymerization reaction:

  • Addition polymerization or chain-growth polymerization

The unsaturated monomer, e.g., alkenes, alkadiene, and their derivative polymerize through the formation of either free radicals or ionic species.

  • Free radical mechanism

The derivatives of alkene and dienes are polymerized in the presence of free radicals. The sequence of the steps in these mechanisms are depicted as:

Chain Initiation steps

Chain Propagation step

Chain terminating reaction

For termination, free radical combine to form the polymer.
