Tetravalency of carbon

Tetravalency of Carbon

Carbon is an element with atomic number 6 having 2 electrons in the inner shell and 4 electrons in the valence shell. Due to the reason, it has four electrons in the valence shell; it has tetra valency meaning the valency of carbon is 4. It is covalently bonded with another element to form an octet state.

In CH4, a carbon atom combines with four hydrogen atoms to form a methane molecule.
