Alkynes and Physical properties of Alkynes

Alkynes

Alkynes are unsaturated hydrocarbons having at least one triple bond between carbon-carbon atoms. It has the general formula CnH2n-2. Acetylenes are highly reactive, and they don't exist freely in nature.

Physical Properties

  1. It exists in all three states solid, liquid, and gas at room temperature. Compound with less than four carbons is in the gas state, while those having 5 to 13 carbon atoms are liquid, and others having a higher number of carbons are solid.
  2. Alkynes are less volatile compared to alkanes and alkenes.
  3. Melting and boiling points regularly increase with an increase in molecular mass.
  4. Generally, alkynes are nonpolar and have little solubility in polar solvents.
