Condensation Polymerization Reaction Polymers

Condensation Polymerization Reaction Polymers

  • Polyamides(nylons): These are formed by the condensation polymerization of diamines with a dicarboxylic acid and also amino acids and their lactams.
  • Nylon 6,6 is prepared by condensation polymerization of hexamethylenediamine with adipic acid under high pressure and temperature.
  • Nylon 6 is prepared by heating caprolactam with water at a high temperature.
  • Polyesters: Polyesters are the product of polycondensation polymerization of dicarboxylic acid and diols. Example: Dacron, terylene etc.
  • Bakelite and related polymer: It is obtained by the condensation polymerization of phenol with formaldehyde in the presence of acid or base catalyst.
  • Melamine: Melamine is formed by the condensation of melamine and formaldehyde.
