Vitalik Buterin, A Programmer, associated with Bitcoin Magazine, launched Ethereum in 2015. In 2013, Buterin had argued that Bitcoin needs a Scripting language for Applications development.
Failing to gain agreement, he decided to launch a new Blockchain platform with a more general Scripting Language.
Ethereum is an open software platform based on Blockchain technology that enables developers to build and deploy decentralized applications. Simply it’s a programmable Blockchain. It has a native cryptocurrency Ether (ETH). ETH holds many of same features as Bitcoin. But unlike Bitcoin, it is programmable and can be used to build new kind of applications.
Ethereum did to application development what Bitcoin did for money.
These new application created on top of Ethereum are called DApps (Decentralized Applications). Cryptokitties is one such
DApp developed on top of Ethereum Blockchain.
The first Public beta pre-release network by Ethereum was named "Olympic". Ethereum' s live Blockchain named "Frontier" was launched on 30 July 2015. The Codename for current Ethereum Protocol Prototype St. Petersburgh.
