1 Anatomy of  monocot and dicot leaf

Monocot leaf

Types of leaf

Dorsiventral

Isobilateral

Stomata

Usually more on the lower epidermis

Equal on the lower and upper epidermis.

Mesophyll

Made up of two types of tissue:

(a) Palisade parenchyma

(b)Spongy parenchyma with large intercellular spaces

Only spongy parenchyma is present, which has very small intercellular spaces.

Bundle sheath

Made up of parenchyma. Just above and below the vascular bundles some parenchyma cells or Equal cells are present up to the epidermis

Made of parenchyma but just above and below the vascular bundles are found sclerenchymatous cells(up to epidermis)

Bulliform cells

absent

Present, particularly in grasses
