Running & Startup Configuration

CIsco devices store commands in two configuration files:

1. Startup configuration

2. Running configuration

As user type a command in the global configuration mode, it will be stored in the running configuration. Which resides in a device’s RAM, so in any case device loses power, all configured commands will be lost.

To overcome with problem you need to copy your current configuration into the startup configuration. Startup configuration is stored in NonVolatile memory of a device, that all configuration changes are saved even if the device loses power.

To copy to this type the command copy running-configuration startup-configuration.
